Job Title : MI Designer / Developer

Description :
The SAP BW on Oracle data warehouses, supported by the Shell Downstream MICC (Management Information Competency Centre), deliver critical Reporting & Analytics capabilities across the majority of businesses and processes in Shell Downstream (DS). In addition a Native HANA system is used to enable more advanced and real-time analytics. The Senior MI Designer is responsible for the overall MI design in his subject area. The requirements scope generally covers multiple businesses. The solution scope covers all tools (both backend and front end) which have been made operational for use in new solutions. DS is currently moving from a pure SAP BW on Oracle landscape to a mixed Native/BW HANA landscape with multiple front-end tools (a.o. SAP BI4). The Senior MI Designer role is key to make sure that we design the right solution based on a selection of all the available tools.

Key responsibilities :
1, Drives clarification of complex MI and analytical requirements from a technical solution design perspective and delivers effort estimates for those solutions
2, Performs Prototyping in support of requirements definition or technical design questions
3, Contributes to/supervises the development of the Functional Specs and Technical Specs from business requirements – works with/coaches more junior resources
4, Develops or supervises design development for new solutions/enhancements of all complexities (extraction logic, data modeling, DSO/Cube/Update rule creation, reports)
5, Leads the preparation of test scenarios
6, Executes/leads Unit Test, and Integration Test
7, Leads defect resolution during test cycles and hypercare
8, Supervises creation of runbooks and participates in runbook peer reviews
9, Supervises design of Control M requirements for any new data flow
10, Works closely with Integration Design Leads in the MICC
11, Ensure that new business requirements are understood
12, Apply and improve existing design standards
13, Ensure that new capabilities are understood and applied in new work items
14, Represents MICC in the resolution of minor/medium Production issues in meetings with the support organisation

Key technical knowledge areas
Master in SAP BW design (7.3+), minimum on Oracle databases (5-10 years of experience) with several full cycle implementations completed. Experience of BW on HANA design is a plus.
Detailed understanding and experience with the SAP BW and HANA technology, landscapes and any related interdependencies Ability to design and build complex data-flows to facilitate various business requirements.
Apply advanced data modelling techniques, including currency conversion, variables and input parameters. Implement decision automation using business rules.
Experience of managing complex and large datasets in a SAP BW and a HANA environment
Excellent knowledge of key technical objects used in the creation of a SAP BW data models in BW on HANA 7.3+ environments and HANA models
Familiar with replicating and loading data into SAP HANA from different SAP and non-SAP data sources (e.g. SAP Landscape Transformation (SLT), SAP Data Services (BODS), or Direct Extractor Connection (DXC)
Experienced with OpenHub extractions
Good understanding of various performance optimization techniques related to Reporting, Data warehousing and data extraction
In depth understanding of LSA (and LSA++) layered scalable architecture and how it is implemented for BW on Oracle (and HANA) Preferably strong functional ECC knowledge in any of the relevant modules for DS (SD, MM, FICO, …) – in particular from an extractor perspective
Skilled in HANA Native Modeling (> 1 yr of experience)
Implement data models with SAP HANA using analytical and calculated views. Should be able to advice on the modelling approach and best practices.
Optimize data models and reporting performance on SAP HANA. Advise on modelling approach and tools to achieve optimum performance. Evaluate the impact of different implementation options such as table joins, aggregation, or filters.

Following expertise is a plus:
Knowledge about the concept of authorization in SAP HANA, and implement a security model using analytic privileges, SQL privileges, pre-defined roles and schemas.
Perform basic security and authorization Knowledge about administering data models in SAP HANA, including setting of information validation rules, managing schemas, the importing/exporting and transporting of data models.
Apply SQL Script to enhance the data models in SAP HANA using AFL, CE functions, and ANSI-SQL.
Exposure to HANA XS
Strong knowledge of reporting solutions on top of SAP BW and Native HANA.
Good working knowledge of SAP BI4
Preferably exposure to other (reporting) tools such as Spotfire, Tableau, Fiori,…
Understand the implication on performance of the various reporting tools and connection types
Provide advice on reporting strategies, and perform appropriate reporting solutions with SAP HANA. Build reports using various tools, for example, Microsoft Excel or SAP BusinessObjects BI tools.
Experience with Rev- Trac/CTS+ transport management tool

Key (functional) competences Proven participation in large data warehouse deployments as a one of the lead designers
Master in teasing out and interpreting end user requirements and in turning this understanding in technically robust and performing data warehouse and HANA
Master in documenting designs from a technical solution perspective
Substantial experience in estimating data warehouse solutions for budgeting and planning purposes
Ability to participate in blueprint and design sessions, review options and provide recommendations while communicating the benefits, risks, and constraints to both the business and IT stakeholders
Good understanding of Oil & Gas industry is a plus
Strong functional ECC knowledge in any of the relevant modules for DS (SD, MM, FICO, …) is a plus.
Delivery focused with doer/hands-on attitude - Able to work independently without guidance or supervision
Strong analysis skills
Displays good leadership skills and has the ability to coach and guide juniors within the team.
Excellent written and spoken communication skills - able to engage with various stakeholders
